I'd hiked down to the Au Sable Point lighthouse from the Log Slide overlook in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Though it's a popular destination for a day hike, few people hang around for sunset and a two mile hike in the dark back to the trailhead. I set up on the beach below the lighthouse and settled in for the sunset. I took a new photograph every few minutes while the sky progressed through dramatic shifts in color. After sunset, I sat on the beach and watched twilight pass into night before I put on my headlamp and headed for home.
